Prosecutors argue against parole of two convicted Youngstown murderers
The Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office is arguing against the potential release of two convicted Youngstown murderers.
Shawn Greene and Harold Agee have parole hearings scheduled for January 2022.
Agee was convicted of the aggravated murder of James Crafter, Jr., who was killed on May 22, 1994, after being abducted at gunpoint. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with parole eligibility after 23 years.
Prosecutors say Agee and an unknown person abducted Crafter at gunpoint and drove off. Another man held others on the street at gunpoint to make sure no one could help Crafter.
The release says Agee forced Crafter to drive them to his home at 2216 Ash Street in Youngstown. As they walked down to the basement, Agee opened fire, leaving 29 bullet holes in Crafter's body. Prosecutors say the shooting was done "execution-style."
Shawn Greene was convicted of the murder of Daniel Wilkerson. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with parole eligibility after 15 years.
According to the release, Greene shot and killed Wilkerson at Shawndea Bell's house. Greene was dating bell at the time and Wilkerson was Bell's ex-boyfriend. Prosecutors say Greene grabbed his revolver from the bedroom and shot Wilkerson once in the stomach after exchanging words with him.
The release says Greene admitted to shooting Wilkerson but claimed self-defense. The evidence in the case found that Wilkerson did not have a gun on him during the shooting and that there was not much of an argument before Greene pulled the trigger.
Mahoning County Prosecutors say they are against the parole of both men because "there does not exist reasonable ground to believe that their parole would further the interests of justice and be consistent with the welfare and security of society."
