Rape suspect dies in custody at Trumbull County Jail

A 56-year-old man who was arrested on December 22 for allegedly raping a minor has died while in custody at the Trumbull County Jail.
Mark Reese was found hunched over inside of his cell at 10 a.m. Sunday, according to Major Dan Mason. Staff tried to perform life saving procedures and called an ambulance. Reese was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
There is no reason to believe Reese's death is suspicious. Major Mason said jail staff was aware that Reese had a number of health issues and frequently checked on him. The coroner will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Reese was charged with felonious first-degree rape of a minor and could have faced between three and 10 years in prison, plus a fine of up to $20,000 if found guilty. Warren Police had enough evidence to execute a warrant on him last month.
The courts will now have to take information surrounding his death and decide how to proceed.
