YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge has handed down a three year sentence for a New Castle man convicted of assaulting two Boardman police officers.

Shawn Drogus, 31, was charged in June of 2021 with felonious assault, obstructing official business, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

He was sentenced to three years in prison, for his crimes and can apply for judicial release when eligible.

The charges came after Shawn Drogus, alongside his brother Shane Drogus, were accused of causing disturbances and assaulting police officers at the Days Inn in Boardman.

According to the police report from June of 2021, Shawn yelled profanities at officers, resisted arrest by fighting, and had to be tased three different times.

One officer was reportedly thrown several feet away after a kick to the chest by Shawn.

His brother, Shane, was charged with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct.

Shawn Drogus's brother, Shane Drogus, accepted a plea deal in August of 2021 for the same incident. He was sentenced to 90 days in prison with 89 suspended and 12 months probation with good behavior control after all fees are paid.

Shane Drogus was ordered by the court to refrain from having any physical or verbal contact with the Boardman Police Department.
