Rams score 13 unanswered points, defeat 49ers in NFC Championship game

The San Francisco 49ers were in a great position, leading the Los Angeles Rams 17-7 in the early stages of the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship game, with a trip to Super Bowl LVI on the line.
After falling behind 7-0 in the second quarter, the 49ers ripped off 17-straight points to take a 13-point advantage in the second half. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo found George Kittle for a 16-yard touchdown pass in the third to give the 49ers their largest lead.
Shortly after the final frame started, the Rams began their comeback efforts as Matthew Stafford hit Cooper Kupp for an 11-yard score, making it a 17-14 game.
From there it was a pair of Matt Gay field goals that gave the Rams the lead. With 1:46 left on the clock, Gay hit a 30-yard field goal, giving LA a 20-17 lead.
The 49ers got the ball back and had a chance to tie or take the lead, but began what turned out to be the season's final drive at their own 25 yard line. Following a Garoppolo incomplete pass, the 49ers lost three yards on 2nd down before Jimmy G was pressured on 3rd down. As a result, he flipped the ball trying to make a play, but it was intercepted by LA's Travin Howard, sealing the Rams' NFC Championship.
The Rams advance to their second Super Bowl appearance under Head Coach Sean McVay, in his fifth season leading LA. They won't have to travel very far.... as they'll play in their home venue of SoFi Stadium.
Super Bowl LVI is set for Feb. 13 on NBC and 21 WFMJ.
