The Youngstown State Red - White Spring football game returns for the first time in five years.

The game, Saturday at 11:00 am at Stambaugh Stadium puts a cap on spring practice, the first for Coach Doug Phillips.

"We've been really focusing on our pass game to work on our protections and routes, " said Phillips, entering his third season.

The Penguins played 17 games in the 2021 calendar year, finishing 4-13. They were 1-6 in the spring and 3-7 in the fall.

''I'm taking the handcuffs off and telling the offense they have to score points," Phillips pointed out.

"Your going to see a lot more passing, more explosives," said receiver Bryce Oliver.

The game will have 2 - 20 minute quarters and will go to game conditions for the final 2 minutes of each quarter.

Admission to the game is $5 and seating is only the west side.
