Rucci responds to California Palms lockout

The owner and six residents of the California Palms addiction recovery center are now locked out of what was once their home.
A judge ordered the addiction recovery center to leave that property over a four million dollar debt as far back as October of 2019.
Thursday night sheriff deputies and also a rep of the new owner of the facility arrived and changed all the locks at California Palms, evicting Sabastian Rucci and six people who were staying here.
A lot has happened since those were installed when Sebastian Rucci decided to make this Hotel California in 2015.
When that venture failed, Rucci turned the hotel into a 200 bed addiction recovery center in 2017.
But the state terminated his certification to run it as a treatment center.
A plethora of court cases and legal files later, Pender Capital out of California bought the hotel at sheriff sale in April of 2021. Rucci filed for bankruptcy which allowed him to still stay at the hotel, but this week a judge issued an eviction order, denying a request for a stay in the case.
One township trustee says she just hopes something can be done to improve that property.
"This is a great location so maybe the developers would be able to put something there that would make it look more attractive. That's the biggest problem. We are growing. This has always been a dark shadow in my eye," said trustee, Monica Deavers.
Pender Capital was not able to respond for our request for comment Friday.
Rucci tells 21 News he paid the lender $500,000 as a down payment last year and has a hearing scheduled for next Friday on what he calls a breach of settlement with them.
He also says he believes he will be back in the building next week with the blessing of the courts.
