Firefighters return to Valley after search and rescue following Florida hurricane

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - After working five days searching for survivors of Hurricane Ian in Florida, a team of firefighters began the journey back to the Mahoning Valley on Monday.
Firefighters from Calcutta, Liverpool Township, and Milton Township left for the Fort Myers Beach area last Thursday to assist in Operation Hurricane Ian Search & Rescue for Fort Myers Beach.
The crew worked with Florida Urban Search & Rescue Task Force Two following the devastation, destruction, and death left in the wake of the hurricane.
The original team consisted of Calcutta Fire Lt. Randy Schneider, Chief Harold Maynard, Fire Lt. Dave Dunn Jr, and Firefighter Brent Liste from the Milton Township Fire Department, as well as Liverpool Township Fire Dept Firefighter Justin Ash.
Calcutta Fire Chief Dave McCoy arrived on Saturday with a side-by-side vehicle needed for additional rescue calls that came in.
It was the second time in the past ten months in which Calcutta Firefighters have taken part in helping victims of natural disasters.
After joining search and rescue efforts following last December’s tornadoes in Mayfield, Kentucky, the department went back to the state for three days following intense floods.
