EAST PALESTINE, Ohio - Residents of East Palestine are returning home after an evacuation order, which resulted from a train derailment Friday evening was lifted Wednesday afternoon.

Village officials including Mayor, Trent Conaway, Fire Chief Keith Drabick and Columbiana County EMA Director, Peggy Clark all gathered for a press conference to provide answers to the questions and concerns residents have about their return.

Mayor Conaway once again assured residents that the air quality is safe and the water in the village is safe to drink, but understands that some residents who consume well water still have concerns.

Residents who consume well water can have bottled water delivered to them while their well water is being tested.

Other concerns include a lingering odor in the air. Mayor Conaway explains that there is some runoff in village streams, but Ohio EPA is currently monitoring the situation along with contractors from Norfolk Southern.

"We will hold Norfolk Southern's feet to the fire and make sure that everything is done right. If it's not done right I'll be talking to Congressman [Bill] Johnson, Senator [J.D.] Vance [and] Columbiana County Commissioners," Mayor Conaway said.

Additionally, various phone numbers were provided for those who need further assistance with any issues they may run into during their return home. These resources are as follows:
