Students to witness 'mock' crash at Canfield Fairgrounds Monday

CANFIELD, Ohio - People living or driving around the Canfield Fairgrounds may see emergency vehicles on Monday morning.
Chance is the activity is from a mock crash scheduled to show 11th and 12th-grade students what could happen if they drive while being distracted or impaired during this upcoming school prom season.
Event sponsors, Mahoning County Safe Communities, and the Canfield Police Department say the demonstration is not meant to scare the students, but rather to help them see what happens in this type of situation, whom it affects, and what can be done to prevent it from happening.
Students will be bused to the fairgrounds and seated in the grandstand at 9:30 a.m.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds in the United States.
Currently, 6 out of 10 teen crashes involve driver distraction, and in 2021, 64% of fatal crashes in Mahoning County had a mind-altering substance in their system.
