More than 20 fire departments including a few from Trumbull County responded to a large fire in Andover, Ashtabula County this week.

The fire happened around 5:53 p.m. Wednesday at a portable sawmill operation.

Crews arrived to find a fire burning in the clear-cut woods area around the sawmill.

The first units on scene removed equipment from the hazard area and multiple departments were called in with UTVs and manpower.

The fire was about two miles from any road, leading to challenges for firefighters, including not being able to have an adequate water supply in the area.

Between six and 10 acres were burned but crews were able to get the blaze under control.

Three minor injuries happened while crews battled the fire. One firefighter was struck by a tree and suffered cuts from a UTV falling into a rut.

A second fireman had chest pains and was taken to the hospital for CO2 poisoning. The third firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Six fire departments from Trumbull County responded: Mesopotamia, Bloomfield, Kinsman, Gustavus, Johnson and Vernon Township.
