WARREN, Ohio - Warren Mayor Doug Franklin met with Director of Safety & Service, Eddie Colbert and other city officials to discuss potential methods to curb violence among teens in the city following a fight at a 13th birthday party over the weekend.

Mayor Franklin talked with 21 News about the city's "multi-pronged" approach to curb teen violence in the city.

Franklin says he understands a lot of fights today happen due to arguments over social media and the internet. That's why he's calling on parents to monitor their child's internet usage and social media activity.

Additionally, Franklin tells us city law enforcement will make sure anyone seen instigating violence on social media will be prosecuted to "the fullest extent of the law."

"We'll engage our cyber units to monitor some of this, but we're also asking parents to get involved and look at their children's social media activity as well," Mayor Franklin said.

Additionally, Mayor Franklin tells us the city is working on a program called "Violence Interrupters," which will involve city law enforcement and the city school system, as well as local health care providers.

"We want to help our young people find other safer, healthy alternatives and activities that are healthy and help them become a healthier asset to our community," Mayor Franklin said.
