Meeting scheduled to discuss ongoing annexation concerns in Salem, Perry Township

SALEM, Ohio - Salem and Perry Township officials will be meeting Wednesday night in Salem City Council Chambers to discuss potential solutions to ongoing annexation concerns amongst the city and township.
Perry Township Trustee, Steve Bailey tells 21 News these concerns stem from a piece of property that was annexed into the City of Salem in the fall of 2022. Bailey says here is a home across the street from this property, which the city says has a deed restriction on it.
According to Bailey, the homeowner does not want to be annexed into the city, but if she doesn't the city will cut her water and sewer access off.
Bailey tells us Perry Township residents view this as a lose-lose situation explaining that residents are concerned of a potential "domino effect" where properties will be touching one another if annexed.
However, if not annexed, residents are concerned that they too will lose access to city water and sewers. Bailey says residents just want things to be the way they were before.
The meeting will be held in Salem City Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Bailey says he hopes both communities can come to an agreement on how to move forward.
