WARREN, Ohio - A Warren man was recently indicted on multiple counts of child endangerment, but according to court records, this is not his first experience with these charges.

According to the indictment, 42-year-old Shawn Stambolia and five counts of endangering children.

According to a police report from Warren Township PD, police were dispatched to a home on the 1100 Block of Miller Street for a domestic violence call. Police say they are "very familiar" with the home due to the numerous calls for service there.

Upon arrival, police observed five children between the ages of one and eight years old standing outside by the back door and Stambolia on a chair smoking a cigarette.

Police spoke with the victim, identified as 36-year-old Carla Hunt who told police she wanted Stambolia out of the house and accused him of punching her in the face. Police observed a bruise and slight swelling under Hunt's eye.

Stambolia later told police that his arm was broken and accused Hunt of hitting him with a baseball bat. Police located a baseball bat at the scene.

Both Stambolia (pictured above) and Hunt (pictured below) were placed under arrest.

Police say when officers checked on the five children, they noticed that the ones who were wearing diapers had full diapers that were well past needing to be changed.

The children told officers that they had not eaten since the day before the incident. Officers purchased food from McDonald's for the children.

Police described the conditions of the home as "deplorable" stating that there was no refrigerator or stove in the house and that frozen food was inside coolers outside, but the coolers had no ice in them.

Police say one child was seen drinking milk out of a dirty bottle with curdled milk and mold on the inside of the lid and that there were no clean bottles in the house.

Officers attempted to reach multiple family members to take custody of the kids, but police say attempts to reach these family members failed and the ones who did answer refused to take the kids.

The children were turned over to Children's Services.

The indictment states that this is far from Stambolia's first incident, with his indictment citing a 2021 case in the Warren Municipal Court and Common Pleas Court records showing another case out of Niles from 2007 both with charges of child endangerment against him.

This also isn't Stambolia's first run-in with Domestic Violence charges either, with his indictment citing a 2019 case in the Warren Municipal Court, and Common Pleas Court records showing a case from December of 2020 both with domestic violence charges.

In 2007, Stambolia, along with a woman was accused of using a makeshift cage to restrain a two-year-old child. In October of 2007, Stambolia was sentenced to five years of community control in this case according to court records.

None of the children in the 2023 case appear to have any connection to the child in the 2007 case.
