On Tuesday, Youngstown police arrested a wanted man for multiple drug and gun charges.

Eugene Thompkins, 32, of Youngstown, was arrested and charged with having weapons while under disability, possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

This stems from a stop earlier this week where, according to a police report, officers noticed Thompkins pass their patrol car in a blue SUV. The officers say they were informed Thompkins had an active warrant out for his arrest for an unrelated domestic violence incident.

After stopping the car, officers found Thompkins wearing a bullet proof vest.

A police report states the officers smelled the odor of marijuana in the car and searched it. During the search officers found three packs and one jar of marijuana, a used marijuana cigar and a black scale with drug residue on it.

Additionally, the police found a revolver in the car's center console and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in the back seat. Both of which were discovered to be reported stolen.

Thompkins is not allowed to have guns due to a prior 2013 drug trafficking conviction in the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

He is being held at the Mahoning County Jail.
