How Valley lawmakers voted on bill to avoid government shutdown

WASHINGTON - All but one of the Valley’s representatives in Congress voted on Saturday for a resolution to keep the government from shutting down.
Both the House and Senate approved a continuing resolution, with Valley Republicans Bill Johnson and David Joyce of Ohio, and Pennsylvania’s Mike Kelly joining 332 of their House colleagues voting “Yes”.
"I'm encouraged to see Democrats join House Republicans to pass a clean, short-term spending bill to keep the government open and avoid a shutdown. To me, this is not a red issue or a blue issue. This is a red, white, and blue issue," Rep. Kelly said in a statement. "In negotiations like this, no deal is perfect. But shutting down the government should be a last resort. I'm grateful to colleagues on both sides of the aisle for joining me to get this bill over the finish line."
On the Senate side, Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown and 88 others voted in the affirmative, while J.D. Vance and eight other Republicans voted “No”
“A government shutdown would be devastating for Ohioans. Today we came together to keep the government open and prevent a crisis," said Brown in a statement. "While passing this package was necessary to avoid a shutdown, it should have included critical support for Ukraine as they fight back against Putin’s invasion. I am calling on Senate leadership and the White House to immediately move to provide support for Ukraine. I will keep working to ensure our country continues its support for Ukraine in their fight for freedom.”
President Biden has signed the resolution into law.
