Arrest warrant for New Castle man charged with hit-and-run jogger fatality

An arrest warrant has been issued for a New Castle man charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a jogger last December.
According to Lawrence County Court records, the warrant was issued last month for 33-year-old Zachary Patrick, who failed to appear for a court hearing earlier.
Patrick was arrested in February for allegedly running down David Chaifullo as he was jogging along Wilmington Road two days before last Christmas. Chaifullo died later at a hospital.
Police say Patrick failed to stay in his lane, crossed two lanes of traffic, and drove through the parking lot of a local auto dealership striking Chiafullo with his vehicle.
Patrick allegedly continued to drive until he struck a nearby fire hydrant damaging it and another nearby business.
Police say when the incident took place, Patrick was driving, even though his driving privileges had been suspended. In addition, investigators say Patrick was under the influence of a controlled substance.
Patrick faces trial on nine charges including homicide by vehicle while under the influence, reckless and careless driving, and failing to stop and render aid.
