Mahoning & Trumbull County - The Mahoning County and Trumbull County commissioners announced today that they will be committing a combined $2 million of support for Valley Vision 2050.

This is an aggressive strategy to increase the quality of life for residents across the Mahoning Valley, according to the commissioners.

Valley Vision 2050 came together through a collaboration from five regional organizations. These include the Port authority, Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, The Youngstown Foundation, and Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and Valley Partners.

These organizations engaged consultants from Ernst & Young to bring stakeholders from multiple industries together to solve issues like housing, quality of life, and support for the arts and culture across Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The commissioners say that Valley Vision 20250 will allow the Valley to be proactive, instead of reactive, to opportunities to improve.

They say that these opportunities include: efforts to grow the population, developing a housing strategy, investing in small businesses, providing job opportunities, uplifting the Valley's valuable non-profits, and more.

"The metrics we use to define success will change," said Anthony Trevena, executive director of the Western Reserve Port Authority. "Population growth, educational attainment, poverty reduction, and closing equity gaps are all among the new metrics that will define success."
