A Youngstown man previously charged with felonious assault in connection to a woman's death is now charged with murder.

According to a grand jury report, 24-year-old Lamarie Smith was indicted on two counts of murder and one count of felonious assault.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred back in March on the 1500 Block of Victor Avenue in Youngstown. When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as Deeanna Summers to be unconscious.

Summers was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Youngstown Police Captain Jason Simon previously told 21 News the only reason Smith was not charged with murder from the beginning was police were waiting on forensic results to see if Smith was connected to Summers's death.

Simon told us due to Smith admitting to police that he was fighting with Summers, that was enough to charge him with felonious assault right away.

Court records do not show an arraignment date for Smith for these new charges at this time.
