Football: Brookfield home opener moved to Hubbard due to construction

The along awaited debut of Brookfield's new stadium on the school campus will have to wait some more.
Due to ongoing construction at Brookfield High School’s football stadium on Bedford Rd., home contests for varsity football, junior varsity football, middle school football, and high school soccer will all be moved to alternate locations for the first two weeks of their respective seasons. The district’s first home event of the 2024 season, varsity football vs. Hubbard, scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2024, will be moved to Hubbard High School’s Memorial Stadium located at 1000 Rebecca St., Hubbard. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Locations for all other teams’ home contests will be announced once details are finalized.
Brookfield Schools Athletic Director Ken Forsythe says , “Our priority is the safety and comfort of our students, athletes, community, and visitors. While the construction is a temporary inconvenience, the improvements will greatly enhance our facilities for future events. We appreciate everyone’s patience and look forward to welcoming fans to our updated stadium very soon!”
Citing safety concerns at the district’s long-time home football field on Addison Road, the Brookfield Board of Education voted in December 2023 to renovate the current soccer field, located on the school’s Bedford Road campus, to also accommodate football games. Renovations began in late spring 2024 and include expanding the home-side bleachers, adding visitor bleachers, updating the homestand press box, and moving lights and goalposts from the current field to the new one. The project is estimated to cost the district 1.1 million dollars and should be complete in early September. The Addison Road field is no longer being used.
“Over the last couple of years the district has built a surplus in its general fund budget which we’re using to help support the cost of this renovation project,” says district Chief Financial Officer Jordan Weber. “The strategic use of this money ensures we can enhance our facilities without making any cuts to classroom funding. We are committed to providing Brookfield students and staff with the best educational environment and resources possible and we’re confident these enhancements will provide a stadium the community can be proud of!”
