Eight-year-old child seriously injured in multi-vehicle head-on crash on US 224 in Berlin Township

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Route 224 that seriously injured an eight-year-old child and sent four other people to area hospitals.
Troopers say a van driven by a 17-year-old Canfield girl was passing another car when her van veered into a cargo trailer being hauled by a motorhome just east of Bedell Road in Berlin Township at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The teen’s van then struck an oncoming crossover SUV head-on, seriously injuring an eight-year-old who was a passenger in the SUV. The SUV's driver, Cassandra Clawson, 35, of Diamond, Ohio, and a one-year-old child who was also in the SUV, were taken to a hospital with injuries described by Troopers as not life-threatening.
The teen who was driving the van was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. No one in the motor home was injured.
US-224 was closed in both directions for approximately 3 ½ hours and has since reopened.
No charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation.
