It has been 23 years since the terror attacks in the US that killed nearly people in New York City, at the Pentagon in Washington DC, and those aboard Flight 93 that crashed near Shanksville, PA.

Here are some Valley remembrances that are taking place on Wednesday:

Mahoning Valley 9/11 Memorial Park, 1055 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown. The guest speaker will be JR Blakeman, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and a retired Valley law enforcement officer. The Austintown Fitch Concert Choir and the Springfield High School Choir will sing songs at the event.

9/11 Memorial Service, The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, 833 Youngstown Kingsville Rd, Vienna. The service will start at 6 pm at the Fire Department.

Here is the timeline of events on that day, Sept. 11, 2001:

  • 8:46 am: American Airlines Flight 11 crashes in World Trade Center North Tower.
  • 9:03 am: United Airlines Flight 175 crashes into South Tower
  • 9:28 am: United Airlines 93 hijackers seized control of the cockpit 34,997 feet over Howland Twp. in Trumbull County.
  • 9:37 am: American Airlines Flight 77 crashes in the Pentagon.
  • 9:59 am: South Tower collapses.
  • 10:02 am: Flight 93 crashes into a field near Shanksville, PA, after passengers charged the cockpit in an attempt to take control of the plane.
  • 10:28 am: North Tower collapses.
