The Youngstown State football team came up short against Duquesne 28-25 Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium.

The Penguins opened up the scoring in the first quarter when Andrew Lastovka connected on a 44-yard field goal, but the Dukes responded with a touchdown by Shawn Solomon Jr. and took a 7-3 lead to end the first.

YSU got things rolling in the second, Beau Brungard punched in a touchdown to put YSU up 10-7. Brungard rushed for 39 yards and went 19-29 for 193 yards and one interception.

A little later in the second, the Penguins extended the lead when Tyshon King scored from five yards out. King had 15 carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

The Dukes found the endzone again before halftime when Darius Perrantes connected with Tedy Afful. YSU led 17-14 at the half.

In the third, Perrantes found Afful again and the Dukes took a 20-17 lead. Perrantes went 17-26 for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Duquesne would score again late in the fourth when JaMario Clements took one 75 yards for six. Clements had 12 carries for 204 yards. The Dukes took a 28-17 lead.

With under a minute to go, Brungard found Max Tomczak for a late touchdown but the Penguins ran out of time.

The Penguins dropped to 1-2 on the season and travel to the University of Pittsburgh Saturday, September 21 at 3:30 pm.
