Youngstown Diocese no longer allowing scouting events at its parishes, schools

The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown recently announced it will no longer be allowing any scouting events to be held on the premises of its parishes or schools.
This was announced via a memorandum on the Diocese's website dated September 11.
According to the memorandum, any Boy Scout Troops along with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies are no longer able to hold meetings or activities on these premises and parish and school officials will no longer serve as charter organizations in their official capacities.
The memorandum states that this change is in light of potential issues with insurance coverage and liability, as well as changes in scouting itself.
This change will not affect the religious activities and awards available to scouts through the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.
