Search expanded for missing 82-year-old Southington man
Authorities are expanding the search for an 82-year-old Southington man who has been missing for more than a week.
The Southington Volunteer Fire Department, in conjunction with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, conducted a volunteer search of wooded areas and fields near State Route 534 on Monday.
More than 100 volunteers alongside first responders marched through the woods and fields of Southington Township in search of Bob Wolf.
"We all want to have a positive outcome, we're praying for a positive outcome. And it's just great to see all of Trumbull County coming together," Mike Wilson, Trumbull County sheriff said.
Wolf was last seen at his home on Herner County Line Road on Friday, February 21, according to Southington Fire Chief and Trumbull County Sheriff's Major Douglas Bobovnyik. His cellphone and vehicle remain at his residence. Officials said Wolf was a type one diabetic and was in the early stages of dementia, but it is unclear if his health conditions played a role in his disappearance.
"Now that the K9s have finished a majority of their search, we will be expanding our area," the fire department said in a release.
Volunteers were asked to report to the old Southington bus garage at 4432 State Route 305 for check-in at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Searchers were advised to dress for the weather and terrain, wear bright clothing and appropriate boots, and bring a cellphone with GPS capabilities. They should be prepared to walk long distances through woods, mud and brush.
"Do not stray from your designated areas," the fire department warned. Participants will be divided into groups and deployed after a briefing.
Trumbull County Sheriff's officers conducted door-to-door checks in the area Thursday. Wolf is known to walk in the areas of State Route 534, State Route 305 and Warren-Painesville Road.
Family members said they are trying to stay optimistic and not giving up until they have answers.
"At the moment we have no clue of anything. Nothing is adding up," Brent Harshman, Wolf's second cousin said.
Wolf is described as a white male, 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, with white hair. A recent clothing description is unavailable.
