Spring’s journey isn’t always warmth and sunshine - especially true this April. The outdoor time most of us want this time of year feels like it is on back order.  We usually see a decrease in cloudy days this month, but spring is feeling a little…well…dim as we are halfway through April. So far this month, it has been “mostly cloudy” or “cloudy” almost 90% of the time! Every cold snap makes the warmth that much sweeter - consistent warmth looks likely after Easter!

It’s a speedy cool down as we went from a delightfully warm spring afternoon Monday to a progressively cooler and windier Tuesday. The 40s have made a comeback with steady to slightly falling temperatures and some widespread batches of scattered rain showers Tuesday. It’s a very different feel to the day compared to how we started the workweek. The breeze is busy with sustained winds (the persistent kind) around 20mph, gusty winds (occasional surges) as strong as 40mph, and the cold wind (that creates a feels-like temp) around. We could even see wet snowflakes and some graupel mix in (especially north of I-80) as work toward sunrise Wednesday.

Wednesday turns even colder as we trend toward drying out with temperatures struggling to get out of the 40s for daytime highs. Snowflakes could greet you on your way out the door to work and school with lingering leftover cold from Tuesday night. Thursday we bring back the sunshine, a dry forecast, and seasonable afternoon temps.

The good news about this time of year is that we don't stay locked in with the cold for too long as that strong April sun shines down on the landscape.

Beyond that, we are watching a system moving in for the start of Easter weekend with some rain Friday and Saturday. Neither day looks to be a washout, but we are trending wetter for Saturday. You might need the muck boots and bonnet while hunting for Easter Eggs after Sunday brunch with some soggy grounds and a chill in the air, but the day looks dry and bright!

Trends keep us warm through next week - finally!
