Girard High School students worked together to put on the Girard Community Color Run Sunday afternoon.

Seniors Alexis Pieton, Maddy Gassman, Julia Ragozzino, and junior Brooke Zatvarnicky planned the 5K walk and run.

It started at Girard High School and provided a colorful experience as participants made their way along the route while visiting stations with vibrant, non-toxic powder being tossed on them.

About 100 people took part in the race which was won by 8th grader Emma Latella.

Proceeds from the color run are being donated to the Emmanuel Center, an outreach and advocacy center that serves poor people in the city. The center provides four units of supportive housing for the homeless.

"We wanted to create a fun event that everyone can enjoy while supporting a cause we care about," said GHS senior Julia Ragozzino. "The Emmanuel Center does so much for our community, and we're proud to help them in this way."
