YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – President Obama's second inauguration took place on the same day the nation remembered slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW post in Coitsville sponsored the posts annual observance.

The Reverend Dennis Garner of Christian Life Ministries was the keynote speaker. He talked about Dr. King's contributions to America. The ceremony was followed by a luncheon.

Youngstown's First Presbyterian Church noted Dr. King's accomplishments. The theme of their workshop was eyes on the prize, the pursuit of peace.

Pastor Dr. Nick Mager shared effective methods of promoting non-violence in the community.

Other's honored Dr. King by taking part in a day of service. The Hands on Volunteer Network of the Mahoning Valley has been collecting school supplies for children.

Some of those volunteers met at the Girard Multigenerational Center to sort and begin distributing those supplies. The collection should replenish crayons, pencils, notebooks and other classroom necessities.
