Two houses catch fire next door

Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Pennsylvania - Fire crews were called out around 3:3 p.m. for a fire reportedly started by some children playing with fire in the basement of a vacant house at 1022 Pollock Avenue.

That fire was quickly extinguished.

Then around 6 p.m., flames erupted from the occupied house next door at 1024 Pollock Ave.

Flames were shooting from the second story windows when firefighters arrived.

That fire then spread to the house next door, where the basement fire had been earlier.

A man, woman and four children, living in the second house at 1024 Pollock, escaped the flames safely.

Fire officials say the two fires do not appear to be connected.

Officials are investigating the cause of the second blaze, which did an estimated $15,000 dollars damage.

There were no injuries.
