HANOVERTON, Ohio - An inaugural benefit was held on Saturday for a Hanoverton boy who died of an asthma attack in 2009 after attending football practice.

The Gavin D. Ward Memorial 5K took place at United High School to remember the boy who lost his life when he was just 11-years-old.

The event was organized by Gavin's best friend, Ben Sell.

"All the proceeds from the event, including the 50-50 raffle, will go to the Gavin D. Ward Memorial Scholarship which will benefit the class of 2015, which is my class here at United High School," Sell said.

Sell says over 135 people attended the event, ranging in age from five to 72-years-old.
