Bitter cold moves in

Posted: Updated:

This is a big storm covering a lot of territory.

In fact parts of nine states are under winter storm warnings this morning.

Yesterday, Kalispell, Montana got dumped on with some of the mountains reporting as much as 15 inches and it's still some snow this morning.

To the east in Fargo, North Dakota, it's in the low 20's and by weekend it will be in the low 20's below zero.

They had several inches of snow yesterday and another 6 inches today, tonight and into Wednesday morning.

So far 9 inches of snow has fallen in Duluth, Minnesota and some spots north of town have had 14 inches of snow and they could get another foot before it stops.

The wind will also pick up and drive in the coldest air this season.

We are talking about dangerous wind chills across the Dakotas and parts of the Midwest.

We could see wind chills as cold as 30 below zero.

Then the concern later this week is that cold air driving south. Texas, parts of Texas, Arkansas even into Oklahoma and into Tennessee valley will be susceptible to significant icing.

An ice storm could knock out power to thousands late Thursday and Friday.
