Trumbull prosecutor fighting attempt to spare Howland woman from death penalty

Posted: Updated:

WARREN, Ohio – The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office is fighting the latest attempt to spare Ohio's only female death row inmate from lethal injection.

The attorney for Donna Roberts, from Howland, is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene and to allow her attorney to present evidence in an Ohio court on why she should be spared the death penalty for the murder of her common law husband, Robert Fingerhut.

But the prosecutor's office says all constitutional issues were considered and there is no reason to re-mitigate the case.

The ex-convict who Roberts was having an affair with was also sentenced to death for Fingerhut's murder.

Fingerhut had named Donna Roberts on his life insurance policies.
