ODOT says biggest road project season underway

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Transportation is calling the upcoming road construction season the largest ever.

At a Thursday morning news conference, ODOT officials said the state is spending $2.5-billion on projects around the state in the coming months.

Motorists in the Valley can expect to see work being performed on the following transportation projects:

  • US 224 bridge widening over I-680 in Boardman Township.
  • Resurfacing I-680 from US 224 to the PA Turnpike, including the widening of the Western Reserve Road bridge over I-680 which will occur in 2015.
  • Rehabilitation of US 62 bridge between South and Himrod Avenues over the Mahoning River, Poland Avenue, Cedar Street, and railroad tracks in Youngstown.
  • Replacement of two bridges on I-80 over Mt. Everett Road in Hubbard and Liberty Townships.
  • Resurfacing and widening of US 422 between Southern Boulevard and Linda Drive in Warren.

    PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities say six people were injured and a gas line was damaged after a truck crashed into a Dairy Queen in suburban Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday in Penn Hills. A witness tells the newspaper that she was able to help an employee get out through a window after a cash register fell onto her.
