SALEM, Ohio - A non-profit group held an education event on addiction Saturday afternoon in Salem's Waterworth Memorial Park.

Ohio CAN, which stands for Change Addiction Now, hosted the three hour event which started with a walk and then several speeches about addiction and what addicts and family members can do about the problem.

“Basically, the people that are involved; the parents and the grandparents of the addicts that are hooked on the heroin, they need to be aware of what's going on, aware of the signs to let us know what's happening. They have to come forward so we can stamp this out,” said Sgt. John Scheets, Columbiana County Drug Task Force.

Scheets says they have been making more heroin and methamphetamine trafficking busts since 2004.

Ohio CAN is a division of the national group called United We CAN.
