YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The city of Youngstown is looking for ways to speed up the overhaul of its waste water treatment facility, which last month sent raw sewage into Mill Creek Park killing hundreds of fish.

Mayor John McNally said he will apply for three different loans next month to help cover costs associated with the upgrades.

On Thursday, he called a meeting with legislators and park officials to discuss the city's plan to overhaul its combined sewer system.

Youngstown Mayor John McNally says, "This is not an issue the city is sitting around twiddling it's thumbs about, but we did discuss the time period for all of these projects and the time frame we are operating under right now without any additional large sums of money to help with the improvements is still that 20 year schedule."

The mayor says he is trying to figure out what funding sources are available to help move the sewer project along.
