Dog Warden doubts coyote killed pet Pomeranian in Jackson Township
Mahoning County Deputy Dog Wardens aren't buying the story given by teenagers Wednesday afternoon that a neighbor's small dog was attacked and killed by a coyote.
NORTH JACKSON, Ohio - Mahoning County Deputy Dog Wardens aren't buying the story given by teenagers Wednesday afternoon that a neighbor's small dog was attacked and killed by a coyote.
"In my opinion there was no coyote here," said Bryan Budrovici.
Budrovici says he was called to the door of his in-law's Silica Road home when three teenagers showed up, with riffles in hand. The teens claimed they saw the family's seven year-old Pomeranian, named "Dolce," get attacked and killed by a coyote.
"The door had been opened and one of them started to step in the house. I told them, the first thing you need to do is take those guns, you and those guns, the two other boys, I pointed to all three of them, off this property right now," said Budrovici. "They appeared to be loaded, they had scopes and they were fully, like hunting, like sniper weapons."
The Mahoning County Dog Warden's Office was called to help police investigate. They say evidence of the attack doesn't coincide with that of a coyote.
"It appears that something had it by the head and something by the back end which actually just pulled it apart from there. So we know there was at least two animals involved," said Deputy Dog Warden Dave Nelson.
An eye witness report by another neighbor backed Nelson's theory and said the attack was done by two dogs from the same home as the teens.
A search for the dogs, who were still on the loose, ensued.
"We were told by the owner that if we did find the dogs to use caution because the black one is aggressive and will definitely come after us if we find it," said Dog Warden Deputy Rick Tunison.
Eventually the two dogs, a boxer-mix and boarder collie-mix, made their way home and were voluntarily handed over to the dog warden's office who said at least one had blood in its mouth.
21 News tried to speak with the owner of the dogs but, were told by police that the family did not want to comment.
Dog warden deputies say the two dogs will be designated as "vicious." The owner has ten days to file an appeal and deputies say the family plans to file that appeal.
"To me the dog should not be out, neither one of them should be out, walking anywhere because it could have been one of my kids," said Budrovici.
Budrovici says this isn't the first time his dog has been attacked by the two dogs. He says, last time the neighbors paid for the veterinarian bill and the Pomeranian survived. However, this time Dolce wasn't as fortunate.
