Explosion at Lawrence County plant heard half mile away
Crews from several fire departments in Lawrence County were called out Wednesday night when a report of an explosion came in from a Union Township manufacturing company.

UNION TWP, Pa. - Crews from several fire departments in Lawrence County were called out Wednesday night when a report of an explosion came in from a Union Township manufacturing company.
Just before 11 pm, an explosion was reported in a furnace at Kennametal Alloys at 207 Frenz Drive.
One of the six employees who was working at the time was forced to the ground by the blast. However, no one was seriously injured.
When firefighters arrived, employees had the fire under control.
Union Township Fire Chief Pat Donofrio tells 21 News he heard the sound of the blast from his home nearly half a mile away.
There was some damage to the furnace.
Company officials are looking for the cause of the fire.
