Investigators are looking for what caused fires that required help from half-a-dozen fire departments who battled flames at two fires in Boardman early Friday.

Market Street was closed to traffic in the area until 8 am as crews battled a fire at a car dealership, while other firefighters were sent to rescue a mother and daughter from a burning apartment on Mathews Road.

Crews from Boardman were called out to Donnell Ford on the 7900 block of Market Street just after 4 am Friday.

The first truck on the scene reported flames through the roof of a building. Investigators say the fire was in the lobby.

Heavy fire was reported in the main part of the building.

All off duty firefighters from Boardman, as well as fire departments from Youngstown, Canfield, Poland, and Beaver Township, were called out.

By 8 am, both southbound lanes and one northbound lane of Market Street had reopened.

Several cars in the showroom were damaged, including a vintage 1931 Ford Roadster.

The State Fire Marshal tells 21 News that as of now the cause of the fire is undetermined, but the investigation continues.

Second fire

No one was injured at the Donnell fire, but one person was taken to the hospital while firefighters rescued a 61-year-old woman and her 35-year-old daughter from a second fire that broke out during the Donnell fire.

At 5 am a fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment building on the 300 block of Mathews Road in Boardman.

Dispatchers said that someone might be trapped in the apartment.

Because Boardman crews were at the Donnell fire, the Austintown Fire Department and some crews from the dealership fire were sent to Mathews Road.

According to Boardman fire officials, firefighters rescued a woman and her daughter who were hanging from a second-floor window.

Residents of the apartment were seen outside covered in blankets to keep warm. The Red Cross was summoned to make sure the residents have shelter, clothing and other necessities.

Investigators are looking for the cause of the fire.

Just as the apartment fire was put at around 5:30 am, the Youngstown Fire Department received an alarm of a fire at 1950 Volney Road.
