WARREN, Ohio - A newly released study is aimed at encouraging new businesses to open up shop along a 1.3 mile stretch of Youngstown Road in Warren.

The “Revitalizing Youngstown Road” survey published by the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership found that nearly one-fourth of those polled shop at least once a day along the corridor between Laird Avenue Southeast and Ridge Road.

The study suggests that even more people would be attracted to the area if grocery stores were located there. 58.4% of respondents said they were extremely likely to shop for fresh groceries on Youngstown Road.

Many of the 600 people surveyed were also in strong support of additional businesses, especially restaurants and apparel stores.

On an average day 12,000 vehicles travel the corridor which is the focus of a $4.1 million investment to resurface Youngstown Road and replace sidewalks.

The study says that the improvements are expected to increase both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The Western Reserve Transit Authority has doubled its Warren Express bus route, which runs between Warren and Youngstown along Youngstown Road. The WRTA says it is its only route to experience ridership increases this year, according to the report.

Although there are 73 active businesses along the corridor, the report displays pictures and description of several vacant commercial properties available for development.
