Around 22 million children and teens receive free and reduced-price meals at their schools, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

Once the school year ends, those children, especially those from low-income homes are at risk of food insecurity and poor nutrition during the summer.

The Austintown Local School District will once again sponsor the Summer Food Service Program, to ensure kids have food to eat this summer.

The Summer Food Service Program works to feed thousands of hungry children in Ohio through help from numerous sponsoring agencies and stakeholders.

Meals will be provided to all children between the ages one and 18 for free at the Austintown Elementary School.

They will be served Monday through Friday beginning June 3 to August 16th, including breakfast and lunch.

Breakfast will be served between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., according to a news release from the school district.

Austintown Fitch High School and Austintown Fitch Middle School will also offer breakfast in a limited capacity beginning June 3 and running through July 3.

Those hours will be between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
