The Youngstown Fire Fighters held a memorial services honoring their fallen brothers.

A wreath laying ceremony was held at the Spring Commons Bridge, honoring 19 firefighters who died while on duty.

"Firefighting is dangerous and sometimes tragic work," said Jon Racco, president of the Youngstown Professional Firefighters Union. "These 19 names will be forever remembered by Local 312."

The ceremony is the first one held since before the pandemic.

While this year the event was private for firefighters and their families, next year the remembrance is expected to be larger and include the public.

Today is the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, which is held in Maryland.

The ceremony includes the placing of a Presidential Wreath at the monument and dedication of a plaque honoring those who died in the line-of-duty during the previous year, according to a website dedicated to the service.

The first plaque was placed on the Wall with the names of firefighters who died in the line-of-duty during 2004.
