YOUNGSTOWN A Youngstown woman who pled guilty in August in connection with a child's drowning death has learned her fate.

Adrienne Hudson was sentenced to six years in prison on felony charges of involuntary manslaughter and endangering children Friday morning.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in September of 2023 on the 1900 Block of Ridgelawn Avenue. Hudson was watching a family member's child, identified as one-year-old Londyn Cayson, and left to talk with a relative for about five minutes.

When Hudson came back, she found that Cayson had fallen into a swimming pool in the yard. Cayson later died in the hospital.

Hudson sat in the courtroom with her head in her hands, sobbing as the parents of Londyn didn’t hold back.

“Man I hate you,” Rochelle Hudson, Londyn's mother and the defendant's cousin said. “Forgiving you is something that I will not talk about…There’s not a thing in this world that you can do to fix, to fix this. That was my baby…You took her from us all. You failed her.”

Both parents were not at the house when Londyn drowned but said Husdon was not the one who was supposed to be watching the child that day.

“I never wanted my daughter around this person, never,” Mike Cayson, Londyn’s father said.

Hudson took several minutes to compose herself before addressing the judge.

“It just happened like it was an accident like theirs nothing more or less I can say, I’m sorry,” she said. “I didn’t do it on purpose.”

The judge noted Hudson's sentence could be increased to nine years based on her behavior in prison.

A separate case against Hudson involving this matter was recently opened, with Cayson's estate suing her for wrongful death. You can read more about that in our related coverage below.
