CORTLAND - Cortland City Council has scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday, February 10, to swear in the city's new mayor.

This comes after the city's previous mayor, Diedre Petrosky, was recalled from her position following a special election on February 4.

Since then, no one has been serving as Cortland's mayor because the election results still need to be certified by the Trumbull County Board of Elections.

According to Councilman Kevin Piros, the board will meet the morning of February 10 to certify those results, so the new mayor can be sworn in that evening at the council's special meeting.

The new mayor will be chosen from among the council members. That individual will serve as mayor until late 2027.

Due to the new mayor being selected from the pool of council members, a seat will become vacant.

Councilman Piros says they will sort through potential candidates and will appoint someone to fill that vacancy within a couple of weeks.
