Superseding indictment filed in decades-old Canfield rape case

CANFIELD - A superseding indictment was filed against the suspect in a Canfield rape case that dates back more than two decades.
According to the Ohio Attorney General's Office, a superseding indictment was filed against 57-year-old Jack Sheetz in connection with his alleged role in a sexual assault that took place in the City of Canfield in November of 2000.
It is alleged that Sheetz used a baseball bat to beat a 30-year-old Poland woman before and after raping her. He was found and arrested nearly 25 years after the incident.
In the original indictment, Sheetz was charged with one count of rape and two counts of kidnapping. The superseding indictment adds repeat violent offender, sexual motivation and sexually-violent offender specifications to those charges.
Sheetz could face life in prison if he's convicted of these charges.
