Hubbard Township Trustee Jason Tedrow says efforts to save the Coalburg Lake Dam have hit "a bit of a hiccup."

Tedrow tells 21 News that the Community Foundation of Eastern Ohio & Western Pennsylvania had been seeking a quote for liability insurance for the dam after Trumbull County Commissioners brought the idea up at a special meeting held on August 29, 2025.

Tedrow says the only quote the Foundation could get was $5,000 per month, which was too steep.

Now, the Community Foundation, along with Hubbard Township trustees and the Western Reserve Land Conservancy are working to find a potential solution to the problem.

At this time, no meetings have been set to discuss further solutions.

Tedrow says he does not believe the transfer of the property is in jeopardy just yet since Ohio law does not require private entities to have liability insurance on dams, but says this hiccup does make the purchasing process more difficult.

As it stands, the dam is set to be demolished in 2028.
