Warren man sentenced to 45 days in jail, probation in animal cruelty case

WARREN - A Warren man who pleaded guilty to an animal cruelty charge in January was resentenced on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 1 p.m.
Forty-four-year-old Thomas Leimkuehler was originally sentenced on Monday, March 16, but a resentencing hearing was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon due to an error in the original sentencing entry.
Leimkuehler was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 135 of those days suspended. Thus, he will spend 45 total days in jail. Furthermore, Leimkuehler will be under probation for two years and must do 200 hours of community service.
He will also have to pay $321 in restitution to an animal charity and is prohibited from purchasing any type of animal during his probation.
Leimkuehler pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor animal cruelty charge stemming from a dog found in a distressed condition in the basement of a home on Oak Hill Avenue in May of 2025.
Healthy Hearts & Paws President & CEO Jason Cooke told 21 News the dog was emaciated, dehydrated and suffered from a ruptured abdominal mass. Ultimately, the dog had to be euthanized.
