LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio- The future is uncertain for union workers at a 91-year-old tire company.

Over 200 employees from Denman Tire met Thursday night to discuss the closing of the facility.

Workers said the company routinely lays workers off around November and calls them back near the beginning of the year.

This year, the 270 workers who were laid off were not recalled and the remaining employees were laid off in early February.

Sources said the company's owner is trying to find $3 million from either the government or a bank  to buy materials and keep the plant operating.

Gary Steinbeck, subdirector for United Steelworkers District 1,  said they are hopeful that if the owner is unable to secure the money that someone else will buy the plant.

"We're hoping there's going to be an opportunity with maybe a new buyer down the road, somebody that's going to come in and put capital investment in the plant and provide some long-term security for members and families," Steinbeck said.
