Denman Tire files for bankruptcy

LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio- Union officials are scheduled to meet with workers at a Trumbull county tire company after it filed for bankruptcy Wednesday morning.
Denman Tire filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in federal bankruptcy court Wednesday morning.
In late February, the company issued a notice to its employees that it may close down due to poor economic conditions.
About 270 workers had been laid off at the plant since November.
The company had been trying to find a buyer who could reopen the plant or secure help from the government.
John Janus, who worked for Denman for seven years, said he was surprised by the filing and that he doesn't expect the plant to be saved.
"I'm kind of speechless on it. I was wishing it was chapter 11, but seven I know we're all done," Janus said.
He said he is saddened by the news.
"I feel it's just a waste, this plant not running, because it's capable of running with the workers. Everybody knows we did do our jobs. Nobody slacked," he said.
According to the filing, Denman owes between $1 million and $10 million to more than 200 creditors.
