YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – 21 WFMJ is joining other NBC affiliates in Ohio to raise awareness about autism with The Autism Puzzle, a program dealing with the complex disorder of autism. The show will air 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, the same day as the statewide Autism Awareness rally at the Ohio Statehouse.

The Autism Puzzle is being produced by WCMH (NBC4) in Columbus and will be hosted by NBC4's Jerod Smalley and Ellie Merritt. The special will focus on autism research, treatments and the needs of those on the autism spectrum. The special will also feature:

• A special look at unique job opportunities local businesses are creating for adults on the spectrum.

• A Lancaster High School student with Asperger's as he signs his college letter of intent to run track on scholarship.

• A closer look at a new study that brings to light differences in Asperger's symptoms in boys and girls.

Other NBC stations, in addition to WCMH (NBC4) in Columbus, airing the special are WTOV in Steubenville/Wheeling and WHIZ in Zanesville. Each station will be contributing content to The Autism Puzzle and simulcasting the special live in their markets.
