GIRARD, Ohio - A couple from Niles, who will be married 72 years this June, had a surprise candlelight dinner and dance Friday night.

"If you must cling to someone now and forever let it be me," ("Let It Be Me" by the Everly Brothers) are the words Bill Gales sings every night to his sweetheart Molly.

"His brother said if you don't go after Molly, I will! So then that's when we started to go together. Before then, he wasn't interested in girls," Molly said.

After all these years, the gaze in their eyes hasn't changed since they first met living across the street from each other as kids in Niles.

"Remember we used to always walk up General Electric," she said to Bill. "Yeah," he said. "When we were walking we'd sneak a kiss," Molly said.

They enjoy all types of dances and music. "We used to love dancing," she said. He replied "Oh all the time! We didn't miss a dance!"

And Bill and Molly still have it at the ages of 92 and 91. When asked what their secret was, Bill said, "I always had a good partner!"

When talking about dancing, Molly said "Oh cheek to cheek all the time!"

They eventually moved to Florida and came back to live at Shepherd of the Valley's Assisted Living in Niles to be near family and friends.

Molly said, "Every night before we went to bed he would sing the song ("Let It Be Me" by the Everly Brothers) to me before we went to bed and we would dance to it and he has Alzheimer's but knows every word of that song."

No matter what, it will always be their song.

Shepherd of the Valley organized a candlelight dinner at the facility and the dance, at no cost to the couple, at the Avon Oaks Ballroom in Girard on Friday.

It's part of Second Wind Dreams which is similar to Make a Wish for seniors.
