ATF investigates gun theft in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms want to know who stole 36 assault rifles and handguns from a store called High Powered Armory early Sunday morning between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m.
The store is operated out of AAA Customs on Market Street. But there are no signs or any indication that they sell guns at the location.
Robert Miller of the ATF says, "High Powered Armory is a federally licensed firearms dealer and they've been open for close to a year and we've hadn't had any incidents until this one."
The owner of the store declined to comment about the robbery but investigators have released surveillance footage of the crime in progress.
The footage shows what appear to be two men taking guns off the wall and lining them up on the floor before they took them all and left the store.
Police believe another suspect was waiting outside in a car.
Authorities say the last thing they want is to have these weapons on the streets. They say they've investigated similar cases of stolen assault rifles in the past and they are generally used by violent criminals to perpetrate additional crimes.
Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley says, "Obviously in an area that's been riddled with high crime and violence we are very concerned where these guns are going to end up out there. We have a number of violent incidents with the drug trade and with gang activity so we're concerned some of these firearms are going to end up in the hands of people that don't need these things right now."
The ATF is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the robbery
People can call the ATF or the Youngstown Police Department with information.
